Previous affiliations and history.
Umi was initially planned as Cloter's duet partner in 2019, after being inspired by an obscure producer's song known as "Jellyfish" or "Kurage." Her design is inspired by other vocal synth mascots such as Otomachi Una, Tohoku Kiritan, and, more recently, Tsuina-Chan.
In early 2023, a proposal arose to include Umi along with Cloter in the VoiceFace, the idea arose again later that year, and the decision was made to distribute them for the 2024 virtual singer line-up.
After putting together and recording the databases, with slight changes to character appearance and personality, the publication for their VoiceFace databases was announced on May 3rd, 2024, a day after their fifth UTAU anniversary.

Umi Kurage, the smug, chaotic himedere with a taste for disruption and havoc.
A jellyfish girl with a smug and chaotic personality that tends to be scatterbrained at times. She is spoilt rotten by her father, Cloter, who she loves to play pranks on daily. Her love language is definetly annoying others. Umi loves to tease her father about his doting and overbearing behavior with over-the-top and sarcastic comments, such as Cloter being a sappy push-over.
Umi has a heart of gold deep down and would never ever want to seriously hurt someone else's feelings, even if he can be a little unaware at times.
Umi works with her father in a small beach-side cafe somewhere in the north of Scotland which specializes in aquatic themed drinks and snacks for the locals.
Character concept & lore.
Umi is the reincarnation of a once-famous child popstar who died when the plane she was on crashed into the ocean, leaving her at the mercy of the sea's marine life. In each of her reincarnations, she takes on the form of a jellyfish- humanoid.
The attachment to Cloter's soul developed quickly as a result of Umi's soul seeking comfort from a parental figure after her carers' initial negligence from when she was alive. The two have been destined to cross paths in their next lives ever since

Umi and Cloter are both reincarnations of ghosts that manage to find each other no matter what reality they end up in. Umi enjoys wreaking havoc, while Cloter is always ever so slightly behind, often clueless and flustered with Umi's antics.
The two love to exaggerate their annoyance towards each other with over-the-top and sarcastic comments, but it's all in good fun. If anything, Cloter is extremely overbearing and doting which Umi makes a point to tease him about. Umi often get's spoilt rotten with anything she wants because her father has a hard time saying no to her.
Umi wonders if her jokes and pranks go too far with Cloter, her fears keep her grounded and prevent her from becoming bratty and ignorant.
