Souma is a Japanese orphan who lost his parents in a house fire when he was 4 years old. He was taken to the closest orphanage in New Orleans, and was cared for by a woman named Carla Kassamali. Under her care, he learned many things about Voodoo, and her knowledge of the practice was passed onto him. He devoted his life to voodoo, and became excelled in it at a young age. He developed a taste for swing and big band jazz, and singing became a hobby for him as well. When Souma was working age, he set up his own shop downtown selling his services for the curious (and gullible) people of New Orleans. He now is recognized as one of the last remaining "Voodoo Kings Of New Orleans", and people often come to him for advice, in spite of his penchant to swindle rather than genuinely assist. Souma makes deals and makes them often. If any go south, he will use his power to steal the remaining years off of his victims, stretching his lifespan to over a century. Though Souma is skilled at what he does, he occasionally gets caught up in precarious situations with the gods and other civilians. He enjoys various types of gambling, which also can land him in trouble. Through it all, he lives to entertain and make good use of his unnatural life.
