When Makoto was younger, he broke his leg during a figure skating competition and was never able to get back on the ice competitively; thus sticking to coaching younger skaters instead. Makoto is a positive person who works hard and tries to help others whenever he can. Even if he falls, he knows he can push himself back up and try again.
